March 16, 1938 - October 16, 2018
Beloit – Betty Jean Grady, age 80, died on October 16, 2018 while at Premier Rehab and Care Nursing home in Beloit. Betty was born on March 16, 1938 in South Beloit, the daughter of Cornolia and Mary Lou (Henry) Givhan. Betty worked for over 30 years at Warner Electric and over 20 years as a caregiver with Beloit Home Companion. Betty was an incredibly hardworking person, she never missed a shift and rarely just worked one job. It wasn’t uncommon for her to work 20 hours a day knowing she could get some sleep during her 3rd shift caregiver jobs. She used to joke, “Oh I’ll just take a little nap at the stoplights.” Caregiving was not only Betty’s profession, but was her way of life. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do to support her family and close friends. She could always be counted on; her generosity had no limits. Betty also took in and cared deeply for many foster children over the years. Betty was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Beloit and was a collector of dolls, clocks, state spoons, and old vintage Black American magazines like Jet. She enjoyed watching all sports and playing the lottery, where she would take her same lucky numbers to Everett’s liquor store to get her daily tickets. She loved her Michael’s... Jackson and Jordan, but most of all, she loved her family and found peace in knowing that they were well taken care of and okay. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family in her memory. Betty is survived by three children, Mary Smith, Driena Grady and Darcy (Katie) Grady; 9 grandchildren, Kaleb Lawrence, Burnay Grady, Chimere Grady, Shaharra Grady, Darcel Smith, Anna Cowen, Alex Martin, Sydney Grady and Maxwell Grady and 15 great grandchildren, Shataja Grady, Aareanna Chambers, Anthony Fuller Jr., Damontrion Curb, Ahmer Grady, Ervin Harris Jr., Aneya Fraizer and two sisters, Floy (Bob) Gilliam and Caroline (John) Harrell. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband David Paul Grady in 1997; three siblings, Mary Carr, Frances Robinson and Magnolia McCallister. Funeral services will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1151 East Grand Avenue in Beloit on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 11:00 AM. A visitation will also take place at the church on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will conclude at East Lawn Cemetery.
