Helen Mills – South Beloit, IL We regretfully announce the passing of Helen Leona (Brown) Mills, age 90, who died the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2023 at Fair Oaks Nursing Home, in South Beloit, IL. She had recently been hospitalized for a respiratory illness. Helen was known throughout her life for being a dedicated, loving mother and grandmother and a faithful servant of the Lord. She was born Sept. 29, 1933 in Catlin, IL, the first of Clifton and Dorothy (Wolfe) Brown’s five children. She attended Catlin School, where she was known as “Joe Louis” for the way she always defended anyone who was picked on or bullied. She also met her husband, Furman, at school. They were wed on Nov. 1, 1950, and celebrated a wonderful 68 years together. In 1964, they moved to South Beloit, IL, where Helen was a homemaker and raised their family. She was a seamstress and knitter, making clothes for her children and some of their friends who lived in the neighborhood. She loved cooking for loved ones, and her homemade egg noodles were a family favorite. Helen became a member of TOPS, tended to kids at the Wagon Wheel, and worked as a CNA at Carlyle Nursing Home. She loved spending time with her loved ones, listening to country music, playing card games, like Uno, Crazy Eights, and Rummy, and traveling around the country. Helen joins her parents, brother, Robert, and husband in Heaven. She will be remembered lovingly by her siblings, Wilma, William, and Steve; her children, Donna, Brenda (Max), and Michael; her grandchildren, Larry Gene, Jimmy, Teresa, Teri, and Liane; and her seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in her name to the Church of Christ at 241 S. Hackett, South Beloit, IL. Funeral services will be held at the Rosman Funeral Home, 1125 E. Cranston Road in Beloit on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 1:00 PM. A visitation will also be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12:00 PM until the time of services. Burial will conclude at the Floral Lawns Cemetery in South Beloit.
