May 4, 1941 - July 28, 2018
Lois Ann Coppersmith is now reunited with her angels after passing away on July 28, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Beloit, WI. Lois was born on May 4, 1941 in Avon, South Dakota to Joseph and Anna Boschma. Although the family moved to Wisconsin when she was just a teen, she remained a country farm girl at heart. Lois was married twice in her lifetime. Lois and Robert Spoden, with whom she had six children, wed on February 17, 1962 and she later married Bill Coppersmith on December 30, 1995. Lois mastered a variety of jobs but especially excelled as a supervisor at Larson’s vegetable company in Darien. Using her experience gained there, she moved to Greenwood, South Carolina where she and Bill owned and operated Emerald City Laundry. They retired to Gassville, Arkansas in 2000. In 2011, Lois fell in love for the last time. She bought and fully restored the Victorian home of her dreams in Yellville, Arkansas. She spent countless hours on the details to ensure everything was done just right and she loved every bit of it. Lois had a passion for travel, especially later in life. She had recently visited Ireland, Canada and the Netherlands. Her love of gambling often took her to casinos in Tunica with friends and Las Vegas with two of her daughters. Lois loved her friends. She was a Red Hat Society member of the Cotter Cuties. She shared countless stories of the fun she had with those ladies. Lois was a selfless giver. She volunteered at the Humane Society, working at their thrift store and fostering abandoned animals. She took pride in remaining a regular blood donor to the Red Cross. Lois will be forever remembered by her children, Robert (Diane) Spoden of Elkhorn, WI, Theresa Ibarra of Dorchester, WI, Robin Spoden of Beloit, WI, Kris (Tiffany) Spoden of Beloit, WI, Rebecca (Scott) Moore of Herriman, UT and Rachel (Rich) Lee of Beloit, WI; her step children that she called her California kids; William (Debra) Coppersmith of Riverside, CA, Cheryl Wimberly of Duarte, CA, Carol West of Newark, CA and Christopher Coppersmith of Riverside, CA. as well as 28 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Lois also leaves behind her loving siblings, Darrell Boschma of Janesville, WI, Mary Lou Harris (Ray) of Camp Hill, PA, Dennis (Vicki) Boschma of Rockton, IL, Jo (George) Szwiec of Rockton, IL and Len Boschma of Rockford, IL. Two best friends, Carol Scholtz of Mountain Home, AR and Carolyn Gill of Cotter, AR. She is preceded in death by her husband Bill Coppersmith, ex-husband Robert Spoden and her parents, Joe and Anna Boschma. The family would like to thank Lois’s Agrace Hospice team, Erin, Jill and especially Dusty for all of their help and support and to Amy for making her feel beautiful even on her bad days. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11:30-2pm on Saturday, September 15th at Turtle Community Center at 6916 S. County Road J.
