Philip W. Smith

Philip W. Smith, 61, of Beloit, WI., passed away on Tuesday April 30, 2024, at Beloit Memorial Hospital in the CICU, surrounded by family and friends. He was born on August 21, 1962, in Janesville, WI., at Mercy Hospital. He was born to R. Wayne and Dorothy Joyce (Pope) Smith. Phil was a 1980 graduate of Beloit Turner High School. He was part of the Co-op program through Beloit Corporation, and in December of 1984, he graduated from UW-Madison College of Engineering, and began his career with Beloit Corporation fulltime. He worked for BC until their closure, his final work location being the Research and Development division. After that, he works for Valmet, Mitsubishi, Paperchine, and completing his career with Andritz, Inc. Throughout his career, Phil often traveled. Through these travels, he had many adventures, and met many people that became friends. Throughout his work career, Phil volunteered for several community groups. But the ones that stand out are United Way, where he was on the board for a period of time, and the RSVP group, for which he was on the board at the time of his passing. In 1985, Phil married Susan Joy Rempel. Together they had and raised three daughters: Elizabeth, Emily, and Abigail, all of Beloit. He is survived by his wife and daughters as well as all his siblings: Lauraine Smith (Footville), Sandra Smith (Elkhorn), Linda Richardson (Tennessee), Jeanne [Alan] Smith-Corlett (Lake Mills), Cheryl [John] Douglas (Illinois), Suzanne Smith (Footville), DJ [Rich] Link (Arizona), James [Amy] Smith, David [Vickie] Smith. He is also survived by his siblings-in-law: Gaylene [Dale] Engelbrecht (Rockton), Kathryn [Terry] Jardonek (Ohio), Mark [Brenda] Rempel (Arizona), John [Sara] Rempel (Kiel). He is also survived by his 25 nieces and nephews, and a great many great-nieces and great-nephews. Phil is preceded in death by his father Wayne, mother Dorothy, father-in-law Neil Rempel, and mother-in-law Hilda Rempel, brother-in-law Michael Richardson. In loving memory of Phil, his family is hosting a celebration of his life and legacy on Saturday, June 8th, 2024, in the Celtic House at Glen Erin Golf Course, Janesville, WI. A short time of visiting will begin at 10:30 am, with a program beginning at 11:00 am. A light luncheon and time of visiting/sharing memories will follow.
